The basic course is an introductory class designed to equip new leaders. The course will cover three main categories of Lay Servant Ministries: leading, caring, and communicating. This class is great for new servant leaders in the church. Please purchase the book, "Lay Servant Ministries Basic Course Participants Book"
, by Brian Jackson. The book can be found on amazon.com, cokesbury.com, christianbook.com, or many other sites. You can also order at a Barnes and Noble store. Your course facilitator is Pastor Mike Cassidy. Mike serves at Faith UMC and lives in Grain Valley, with his wife, Liz, and their two children. Mike attended Saint Paul School of Theology and graduated with a concentration in Wesleyan Studies. He enjoys teaching and talking about this thing we call being church.Advanced Course - Leading in Prayer (Limit of 20 participants)
You've asked for this, and it couldn't happen at a better time in our churches! The advanced course will be "Leading in Prayer", taught by Pastor JC Harp, who serves as the Senior Pastor at First UMC specializes in spiritual formation. The book for the advanced course is "Let the Whole Church Say Amen!: A Guide for Those Who Pray in Public" by Laurence Hull Stookey.
You can find at cokesbury.com, or amazon.com (Paperback or Kindle) or Abingdon Press (paperback or E-Book). Please read prior to class, and bring it with you. Prayer is something we learn; it is something that can be taught. For many, however, the only teaching about prayer they ever receive is modeled in Sunday worship. This course may challenge some of your assumptions, test some of your preconceived ideas, stretch your thinking, and enrich your prayer life. It will, at the very least, present you with an opportunity to grow in the discipline of leading public prayer. Cathy will focus on enriching your prayer life for some and for others, relieving the anxiety of inexperienced leaders of public prayer and the discomfort of those with and for whom they pray, to the art of praying in public.
